LDS Petersburg Ward

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints contracted HDG Architects for an addition and improvements to its existing 3,800 SF facility in Petersburg, West Virginia. The existing building was primarily comprised of classrooms that were separated by folding, screen-like partitions. When these partitions were opened, it created a large multipurpose space used for worship services. This layout proved to be inefficient and insufficient for the needs of the congregation.

HDG designed a 3,600 SF addition for a chapel with seating for 150 people. Also included in the addition and renovation were a multi-purpose room, new accessible restrooms, additional classrooms, and administrative offices. The existing facility received new HVAC, lighting and sound systems, and many cosmetic upgrades. Site work included additional parking, sidewalks and landscaping. The exterior design successfully blended existing masonry elements with new and included a larger custom spire which could be seen for miles outside the city limits.
