HDG Tours WVWA New Plant Site

November 12, 2018

As a firm, HDG recently toured the site of one of our projects currently approaching completion, West View Water Authority’s Beaver County Water Treatment Plant and Raw Water Intake Building, located in Economy and Baden, Pennsylvania. HDG provided architectural services for the $90 million, 15 MGD water treatment plant. In collaboration with Bankson Engineers, Inc., HDG designed a series of buildings housing water treatment facilities, including four buildings totaling more than 60,000 SF on two sites. The entire project design incorporated cost-efficient, durable materials to provide a long-lasting, aesthetically pleasing complex. HDG employees were joined on the tour by the Plant Manager, Scott McNicol and Assistant Plant Manager, John DeMarines.  Together they provided commentary on how the water treatment process works and explained why certain decisions were made in the design or modified during construction to accommodate the most current water treatment methods. The plant was in a stage of testing the water treatment processes so we were able to see a fully functioning plant.

It was a great experience for the whole group including the Senior Architects and younger Associates. Touring final projects is something the firm likes to do from time to time to educate our staff about different aspects of the projects we work on, and to allow the project team to discuss the project’s inner workings, such as design considerations and project challenges, and this also give them the ability to take pride in their work at the conclusion of a project.
