Crossroads Scholar Returns To School After Completing Internship at HDG This Past Summer

August 30, 2018

As students of all ages have begun returning to schools across the region, HDG would like to recognize and wish the best of luck to one student in particular:  Keimon Dupree of Central Catholic High School.

HDG hosted Keimon this past summer from mid-June through mid-August as part of the Crossroads Foundation’s Corporate Sponsorship Program. The Crossroads Program is a meaningful mentoring and internship experience that matches eleventh grade Crossroads scholars with working professionals at sponsoring companies in the greater Pittsburgh area.  Corporate sponsors assist in funding a scholar’s junior and senior year scholarship plus provide a constructive summer internship.

Crossroads Scholar, Keimon Dupree, recently completed his internship at HDG and returned to Central Catholic for the start of his senior year!  It is HDG’s hope that Keimon’s internship experience helped him to become more familiar with what it’s like to work in an office environment and prepared him for future employment through the Sponsorship program’s four pillars:  Career Awareness, Workplace Culture, Communication, and Professionalism.  During the internship, Keimon assisted HDG staff with a number of activities, including marketing research, office filing, and organization of client and vendor contacts.  He also completed a number of CADD and Revit learning modules, which helped increase his knowledge of the software he is likely to use in his future career field of interest: engineering.

“Keimon fit in well at HDG and exhibited a high degree of professionalism for someone his age.  He showed a strong understanding of the office’s culture, processes, and how we communicate with each other.  We enjoyed having Keimon here and we hope we were a valuable resource in helping Keimon prepare for college and his future career path,” said Kevin Hayes, AIA, HDG Principal and Founder.

About the Crossroads Foundation:

The Crossroads Foundation’s mission is to provide promising youth who have limited options access to a quality Catholic high school education by nurturing their academic and personal growth so they are prepared to succeed in college and in life.  Their mission is achieved by working in partnership with family, school and community; providing individual support, educational enrichment, and financial support to attend Catholic high school; and turning “students into scholars”.

Crossroads scholars build upon a foundation of academic excellence with thorough exploration of college and career opportunities and the steps that high school students must take to ensure success after graduation.

This emphasis on exposure and exploration enables scholars to survey a wide breadth of post-secondary options, connect with professionals and gain hands-on experience in their career fields of interest, and prepare for the transition to college and the professional workplace.

To date, over 500 students have graduated from Pittsburgh area Catholic schools with the assistance of the Crossroads Foundation. They go on to graduate from college at rates well above the national average. They enrich our communities and serve as examples of the power of education to interrupt the cycle of poverty.
