Collaborative Office Space

Our office has spacious open workstations and a central multi-purpose area we use for small meetings, lunches, seminars, and social events.  It is a comfortable, homelike atmosphere – which helps keep employees inspired and constantly collaborating.  Our office:

  • Is a beautiful work space (at least we hope so, because we designed it!)
  • Has lots of sunshine and views of the forested landscape
  • Is in a great location (close to the airport, I-376 and I-79, and is just 8 miles from downtown Pittsburgh)
  • Has free parking

And, HDG was featured as one of Pittsburgh’s Coolest Offices by the Pittsburgh Business Times!

Community Orientation & Philanthropy

Our passion for excellence in building strong communities is shown through our dedication to giving back to the local community. Each year, the firm supports local non-profits through community sponsorship, participation in our Adopt-a-Landmark Program, matching employee donations to non-profits, and our annual holiday gift drive.

As architects, our focus is on designing and building strong communities.  As part of this mission, each year we take the opportunity to showcase our profession and skills through helping to keep important local landmarks and architectural icons maintained. In May 2019, we volunteered as a firm at the Emmanuel Episcopal Church, a National Historic Landmark, to help complete a number of much-needed landscaping and cleaning projects.

Emphasis on Professional Development & Mentorship

HDG has a diverse clientele which enables our employees to grow by learning about different project types, but at the same time, each employee is given the flexibility and responsibility to truly “own” their own work.

Our company is organized using the servant leadership model, so Principals are at the bottom of an inverted pyramid, supporting and nurturing efforts of all others. Upon joining HDG, architectural professionals are paired with members of our leadership for our “Mentoring for Success Program.” Employees are also encouraged to attend frequent training opportunities (both internal and outside our office) and professional development lunches with vendors. These opportunities allow employees to learn about the variety of options for consideration in design, as we believe you can always learn something new. HDG has been selected from 2016 through present as an AIA Pennsylvania EPiC Firm by AIA Pennsylvania’s Emerging Professionals Committee for fostering emerging professionals in architecture. Additionally, in 2019 we implemented our HDG Women in Design group that meets monthly to discuss the profession from a female perspective.

We encourage getting out of your comfort zone and learning other aspects of how an architectural firm is run – each member of our team has a say in how they want to grow and expand our company. For this purpose, we also hold an annual off-site retreat each year for the entire company to have a part in designing the future of HDG.

Social Opportunities and Group Outings

HDG and our social committee hold a number of internal and external social events and outings throughout the year.  Some of these perks are just for employees, while others include family or spouses.  Just some of these include employee birthday treats, family game and bowling nights, a Pittsburgh Pirates Game, Annual Company Picnic, August Cook-out in the courtyard, our annual Chili Cook-off, HDG Christmas Dinner, and occasional project site visits and other group outings.

Several times throughout the year, HDG also holds in-office happy hours and “employee-funded” activities such as Taco Tuesdays, Waffle Wednesdays, and French Toast Fridays.
